Competitions
Competitive snowboarding is one of the ways that snowboarding is so popular in today's day and age. This is because of how intense and how amazing professional snowboarders can make the sport look. The most infamous places where snowboarders from around the world compete is in the X-Games and of course the Olympics. Snowboarding competitions are almost entirely based in the park on jumps, boxes, rails, and other park features. The first ever snowboard competition was in Leadville, Colorado called king of the mountain in 1981. This competition started an explosion of new competitions that would inspire snowboarders for countless generations. Competitions vary between the halfpipe, big air, snowboard cross, and slopestyle. Halfpipe is judged on the tricks you can successfully land while in the halfpipe. Big air is judged off of what tricks you can do coming off a 45 ft jump. Snowboard cross is a race through a premade course. Slopestyle is judged on the features you hit and how well you can land off of a feature.
